A major threat to security today are the human beings who use information systems, and who– through different combinations of apathy, inadvertent mistakes, and deliberate malicious intent— often cause security breaches. This webinar discusses what we know and what we are only in the early stages of discovering about the human factor in information security, as well as some of the threats that emerge directly from human vulnerabilities, such as phishing, system misconfiguration, and data theft. When one adds the use of personal devices in the workplace and the tremendous mobility of employees (and the data they access) the threat vector for human vulnerabilities grows exponentially. This talk discusses the psychological imperatives that drive risky behaviors, as well as how best to manage human vulnerabilities from an organizational perspective.
