Where Does New York Rank in Solar Jobs?

“Solar energy is a big deal in New York. But how does the state stack up against the rest of the country in terms of jobs? As of December, New York had the fourth-most solar power-related jobs in the U.S. with 8,250, almost three-quarters of which were installation-based.”

GlobalFoundries, SUNY Poly Create New $500M Program to Develop Next Generation Chips

“GlobalFoundries and SUNY Polytechnic Institute are partnering on a new $500 million program in Albany, New York, to manufacture faster, smaller computer chips for mobile and other devices. The Advanced Patterning and Productivity Center will be located at SUNY Poly’s campus in Albany.”

Monroe County Among Top Counties in N.Y. for Solar Jobs

“Monroe County is among the top 10 counties statewide for its number of solar jobs, a new report from the Solar Foundation shows, and New York State ranks fourth in the country. Some 272 people are employed in solar industry jobs in Monroe County, earning it a No. 9 position in the state. Ontario County has 39 solar-related jobs, while Wayne County has 27.”

Gillibrand Stumps for Permanent Manufacturing Designation

“U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand was in Rochester on Monday promoting plans to make a “Manufacturing Community” designation permanent. The program puts designated communities first in line to receive federal economic development funding and, in Rochester’s case, those funds are to be used to invest in manufacturing, said the Democratic senator from New York.”

Food Incubator Brooklyn FoodWorks Opens in Former Pfizer Plant

“Brooklyn FoodWorks, a new kitchen and culinary incubator space for food entrepreneurs developed through a private-public partnership, opened its doors in Bedford-Stuyvesant today, turning space within the former Pfizer plant into what looks like a set for a food show like “Chopped.” The incubator was developed via $1.3 million funding from the New York City Economic Development Corp., with the rest supplemented by incubator resident Dinner Lab, a New Orleans-based dining club that holds pop-up restaurant experiences in more than 30 cities across the country, including New York.”

New Report Pegs Buffalo as the Third-Hottest Construction Market in the Northeast

“Buffalo ended 2015 as the third-hottest construction market in the Northeastern United States. That’s according to newly released figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) for the 21 Northeastern metropolitan areas with populations above 500,000. Only the Boston and New York City areas experienced a sharper rise in construction employment between December 2010 and December 2015”
