Hudson Valley will Kick Off Campaign for New Manufacturing Center

“Hudson Valley Community College is preparing to start a multi-million dollar capital campaign in the next few weeks to expand a program that has produced hundreds of machinists who make turbines for customers around the world. The Troy, New York college is looking to raise at least $3.5 million from private sector and individual donors to finance the construction of a two-story, $14 million advanced manufacturing center.”

Photonics Firms Coming to Rochester, Bringing 1,400 Jobs to Area

“Rochester will be the new home for two leading photonics companies, bringing a collective $1.6 billion investment and more than 1,400 new high-tech jobs to the region. Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Wednesday that the two companies, Avogy Corp. and Photonica Inc., will be moving operations to Rochester.”

NY Manufacturing Index Turns Positive in March

“A bit of good new on the production line this month as the Empire State Manufacturing Survey climbed 17 points and into positive territory. The March reading said the improvement in factory conditions marked the first time since last July that the business conditions index was positive. In February, the index was minus-16.6.”

Nassau County’s First ‘Clean Room’ Opens at NYIT’s Old Wesbury Campus

“The New York Institute of Technology unveiled Nassau County’s first and only class “10,000 clean room” at its Old Westbury campus on Feb. 25. The idea is to enhance our research capacity here at NYIT,” Dean of Engineering and Computer Sciences Nada Anid said.”

City to Launch $150M Fund for Manufacturing Projects

“Developers are being invited to compete for a slice of a $150 million pie for industrial projects run by the New York City Economic Development Corporation. The agency on Thursday will launch the NYC Industrial Developer Fund, which will combine $60 million in taxpayer money with $90 million in private financing that an agency spokesman said would be secured as projects get approved.”

Legislation Aimed at Helping Farmers Sent to the Assembly

“The New York State Senate recently passed legislation to help provide additional economic development resources for farmers. The bill (S2250), co-sponsored by Sen. Patrick M. Gallivan, (R-C-I, Elma), allows Industrial Development Agencies (IDAs) to expand their support of New York’s agricultural economy by making technical and financial assistance available to farmers.”
