Empire State Development Seeks Operator for Northland Facility
“In a significant step forward for the Western New York Workforce Training Center, New York state is seeking bids from entities interested to operate the East Side facility. Bids are due back by June 14 to Empire State Development for the center’s operators. Bidding is open to for-profit companies, not-for-profit organizations and/or collaborative teams.”

Robotics Team Heading to International Championship
“The FIRST—For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology—Robotics Team 1405 of the Charles Finney School in Penfield will advance to the FIRST Robotics Championship in St. Louis at the end of this month, officials announced Thursday. It is the third time the school has sent a team to the competition that has over 900 teams from 39 countries, officials said. The competition is April 27 to 30.”

Buffalo State will Train 24 Unemployed People for Work as Machine Operators
“Twenty-four people who are either unemployed or dislocated workers will be trained for entry- to mid-level manufacturing positions in Western New York. SUNY Buffalo State will institute the new program with the backing of a $100,000 grant from the New York State Department of Labor under the college’s Continuing Professional Studies Office and the Technology Department.”

Poll: US Expected To Surpass China In Manufacturing Competitiveness By 2020
“The United States is expected to overtake China as the most competitive nation for manufacturing over the next few years, according to a recent survey of manufacturing executives. Deloitte’s 2016 Global Manufacturing Competitiveness Index showed that U.S. manufacturing competitiveness rose from fourth in the world in 2010 to second this year — and that it’s expected to assume the top spot by 2020.”
