Industry Week recently led a webinar that was sponsored by Poka, an application designed for workforce training. Travis Hessman, Industry Week’s Editor-in-Chief, began by reviewing the magazine’s  2018 workforce training survey results. Hessman highlighted the importance of digitization in the world of manufacturing today. As vast amounts of new technology are frequently released, manufacturing equipment and the overall environment are becoming increasingly “smarter” with time.
How will the workforce of today and tomorrow keep up? Of the 426 qualified responses gathered, the majority of responders said they train their workforce via on-floor shadowing or traditional classroom education. In a world of smart phones, tablets, and online data, most training is still paper-based. During the webinar, Hessman questioned the reliability and validity of this form of training, inquiring how we measure its effectiveness.
Hessman said that manufacturing is, when it comes to training, often times overly traditional. He also described the industry as “ripe for disruption.” He then handed the reigns over to Alexander Leclerc, the Co-founder and CEO of Poka Inc. Leclerc described the Poka application and explained how it can benefit both the workforce and the company. Poka, he said, offers a solution to the issue of outdated training methods with a reliable fix..
What is your manufacturing company doing in terms of workforce training? Do you use on-floor or paper-based methods, or are you using digital learning instead? If you missed the Industry Week webinar, click here for the audio recording and PowerPoint presentations.
