Albany Leads Upstate in Manufacturing Job Growth, For Now

“The Albany, New York region added more manufacturing jobs last year than any other upstate area. Hiring by drug developer Regeneron Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: REGN) in East Greenbush and computer chip maker GlobalFoundries in Malta accounted for more than half of the 1,000 new manufacturing jobs in the Albany area in 2015.”

Tulip Breaks Ground on New Niagara Falls Plant

“Tulip Corp. has officially broken ground in its new 70,000-square-foot Niagara Falls plant, a move aimed at replacing an aging and obsolete facility while also keeping one that city’s oldest manufacturers in place. An incentive package crafted last year by the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency, New York Power Authority and Empire State Development Corp. helped secure the deal.”

Behind the Scenes at Automated Dynamics’ New Schenectady County Production Center

“Automated Dynamics’ 35 employees are busy installing and testing equipment as the company prepares to start production at its new 30,000-square-foot manufacturing site in Niskayuna, New York. The company makes robotic machines, as well as fiber and composite parts used by the military, nuclear power plants and gas refineries around the world.”

Tonawanda-based Sherex buys California Manufacturer

“Tonawanda-based Sherex Fastening Solutions announced today that it has acquired Disc-Lock, a design and manufacturing company based in Culver City, Calif. Disc-Lock specializes in vibration-proof fastening solutions. While the acquisition closed March 1, Disc-Lock operations and business processes will transition to Sherex’s Tonawanda headquarters over the next few months.”

Albany Fiber Optics Maker forms Joint Venture with San Diego Company

“Integra Optics, a fiber optics maker based in Albany, New York, has entered into a joint venture with a San Diego research and development company. The new business will be called Integra R&D.”

43North Winners and Others Enter State Tax Breaks Program

“Eleven startup companies have committed to projects in Buffalo as part of the Start-Up NY tax breaks program. The companies receive a variety of breaks on state and local fees, including an income tax exemption on all newly hired employees. They applied through the University at Buffalo and pledged a total of 87 new jobs.”

Rochester Ranks 10th for Female Entrepreneurs

“Rochester ranks among the top cities nationwide for female entrepreneurs, a new report from financial organization Merchant Cash USA states. Using 2015 Census data, the small business financial lender ranked some of the nation’s most highly populated cities based on number of small businesses per 10,000 people, office space or home rental costs, and the average unemployment rate per city.”
