Automated Dynamics plans to increase its winnings in the manufacturing marketplace. To make room for the Mohawk Harbor casino project, the Schenectady manufacturer will move to a bigger and brand-new building in nearby Niskayuna. Construction on the 30,000 sq. ft. facility will start the summer, and add yet another tenant to the Niskayuna Commerce Park, which has 100 shovel-ready acres for tech firms.
Automated Dynamics’ decision to remain in the region is a win not just for Schenectady County, but for the State of New York. According to Empire State Development (ESD), the parts manufacturer has outgrown its current facility on Front Street in Schenectady. After considering numerous options for relocation, including sites in other states, Automated Dynamics received strong incentives to keep its growing company here.
According to the Albany Business Journal, ESD is providing $300,000 in performance-based Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits. The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority is also delivering a $60,000 grant. With its move to the new building in Niskayuna, Automated Dynamics will retain 30 jobs and create 20 new manufacturing positions. The company makes robotic and plastic parts for automotive and defense.
The City of Schenectady is also a winner with Automated Dynamics’ move to the Niskayuna Commerce Park, home to regional assets such as Unilever Manufacturing and a new $20 million Army Reserve Center. The $150-million Mohawk Harbor development project will further revitalize the Electric City, which will host the $300 million Rivers Casino and Resort.
