Dr. Darrell P. Wheeler, PhD, MPH, MSW

Darrell P. Wheeler, PhD, MPH, MSW, is the 9th President of the State University of New York (SUNY) New Paltz. Prior administrative positions include Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, Iona University; Dean of the School of Social Welfare and Vice President for Public Engagement at the University at Albany (SUNY); Dean of the School of Social Work, Loyola University, Chicago; and academic positions at Hunter College (CUNY), Columbia University, and the University of North Carolina—Greensboro.
Wheeler serves on the U.S. Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA); the Executive Management Committee of the HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN); co-chairs the HIV Prevention Trials Network’s Scholars Program and serves on the SUNY Research Council. Wheeler is also on the Board of Directors for the Hudson Valley Economic Development Corporation.
In his research, teaching and community engagement work, he focuses on designing and applying innovative programs and policy initiatives to improve health with marginalized and oppressed groups and HIV/AIDS prevention and interventions outcomes.
