Monolith Solar is planning a $4.9-million expansion at the Vista Technology Campus in Bethlehem, a suburb of Albany in heart of New York State’s Tech Valley. The company, which designs, manufacturers, and installs solar panels, received a $400,000 grant from Empire State Development (ESD) and $400,000 in Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits, which are performance-based and directly linked to job creation and investments.
Monolith Solar was born in New York, has thrived in New York and now, we’re expanding in New York,” said Mark Fobare, co-founder and CEO. The solar panel company began life in the garage of co-founder Steve Erby, and is now based in Rensselaer. The planned construction of a headquarters and manufacturing campus in nearby Bethlehem will keep 49 existing jobs and create 76 new jobs in the Capital Region.
According to Area Development Online, Monolith plans to build a 16,000 sq. ft. headquarters and a connected 10,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility. The multi-million dollar expansion will cover the costs of new machinery and equipment, and fund employee training initiatives. Monolith also plans to build an adjacent solar farm, which will produce enough electricity to power most of the Vista Technology tech park.
“This wouldn’t have been possible without Governor Cuomo’s commitment to economic development and growing renewable energy in New York,” explained Fobare, whose company also has an office in Kansas City, Missouri. “State initiatives make keeping our business and the dozens of high-tech jobs in New York an easy decision”.
