$40 million in State Funds sought for Airport Project

“Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo and the Greater Rochester International Airport are asking the state for $40 million to transform the airport into a high-tech “smart terminal.” New York has made some $190 million available as part of its Upstate Airport Economic Development and Revitalization Solicitation initiative. Upstate airports are to be awarded up to $40 million each based on applications they submitted by July 1”

Regeneron acquires Pitney Bowes building in Rensselaer Tech Park

“Regeneron Pharmaceuticals has acquired the 217,000-square-foot former headquarters of home-grown software mapping company MapInfo for $17.75 million. The drug developer bought the four-story office building in the Rensselaer Technology Park in North Greenbush, New York from Pitney Bowes.”

USDA expands Barley Insurance in N.Y., Helps Breweries

“The U.S. Department of Agriculture Risk Management Agency will expand its conventional barley crop insurance to 13 new counties in New York state this year and an additional 16 counties in 2017. The new insurance will cover all upstate counties. The RMA will also begin offering coverage for malting barley in four counties in 2017.”

Regional Manufacturing Orgs – the BNMA and GNMA – Agree to Merge

“The Buffalo Niagara Manufacturing Alliance and Greater Niagara Manufacturing Alliance have agreed to merge, a move that will likely take place within six months. Board members for the GNMA, which represents about 25 manufacturers in Niagara County, voted to unanimously support the merger at the organization’s June meeting.”

GE will Close Upstate New York Plant

“General Electric confirmed Thursday that it will close its locomotive turbocharger manufacturing plant in Latham, New York within the next year. GE Transportation Engine Systems employs 48 people at the suburban Albany plant. Declining demand for remanufactured turbochargers for Electro-Motive Diesel Inc. locomotives led to the decision to shut down the factory near Albany International Airport.”
