Andrew Cuomo’s executive budget proposal and announcing the launch of a new broadband initiative. The council was named an Upstate Revitalization Initiative Best Plan Award winner in December, bringing $500 million over five years to fund projects creating jobs, leveraging private investments and reducing poverty.”

This year the program has a new customer discovery track to decipher the needs of potential customers. Eligible technologies for this track include medical device, optics and photonics, electronics and other technology fields, including traditional web and mobile software, officials said. The new track helps to encourage entrepreneurs from a variety of backgrounds.”

Athenex: From UB Lab Discovery to Job Generator

“University at Buffalo President Satish K. Tripathi today congratulated Athenex, a successful biotech company that began as a UB startup, on the unveiling today by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo of the state’s plans to build a $200 million high-tech manufacturing center for the company in Dunkirk.
The center is expected to create 500 new jobs in the Southern Tier community in addition to the company’s existing 325 jobs, which are located in Western New York and around the globe.”

SUNY Poly to Bring 900 New Jobs to Dunkirk with Drug Plant

“New York will spend $200 million to build a plant for Buffalo-based biotech firm Athenex in Dunkirk. The investment is the latest expansion of Albany-based SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s model of public-private partnerships. Athenex is a developer and manufacturer of specialty cancer drugs that has grown rapidly in recent years after it emerged from a University of Buffalo lab.”
