ALBANY, N.Y. – New York Statewide Virtual Manufacturing Day will bring students from across the state together to learn about careers in the manufacturing industry. FuzeHub, the statewide center for the New York Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NY MEP), is working with several regional NY MEP centers to organize this interactive, virtual event on Friday, October 15.
Over 300 students from communities statewide are registered to participate in the event. They will have the opportunity to be introduced to manufacturing companies based in or near their hometowns. Over 65 manufacturers from across New York will be participating as exhibitors this year.
“In New York State, there are over 15,000 manufacturers that provide close to 500,000 jobs statewide. There are open jobs available today and more are expected in the years to come as significant portions of the manufacturing workforce nears retirement age. It’s creating a workforce gap that requires solutions like New York State Manufacturing Day,” said FuzeHub Executive Director Elena Garuc.
“Our Manufacturing Day events are designed to help show students what it would be like to pursue a career in the industry,” said Everton H. Henriques, NY MEP Solutions Director at FuzeHub. “Alongside our event partners, we’ll introduce students to in-demand manufacturing jobs, with the goal of inspiring them to become the future leaders of industrial innovation.”
Since its founding, Manufacturing Day’s goal has been to inspire the nation’s next-generation manufacturing workforce, encouraging students to consider careers in the industry. Manufacturing jobs are both in-demand and good-paying, especially during periods when industry leaders are faced with labor shortage challenges. Over the next decade, it is estimated 4.6 million manufacturing jobs will need to be filled, and notably, U.S. manufacturing employees have an average annual income of $87,185.
FuzeHub will use the digital conference platform Remo, which enables event attendees to directly interact with each other in smaller groups, creating an experience similar to conferences or trade shows that have booths for attendees to visit. It also allows participants to remain in the platform to engage in larger activities as well, such as keynote addresses and panel discussions.
The regional NY MEP centers joining FuzeHub as event hosts and partners are the Advanced Institute for Manufacturing (AIM) at Mohawk Valley Community College, the Manufacturing & Technology Resource Consortium (MTRC) at Stony Brook University, Industrial Technology Assistance Corporation (ITAC), Alliance for Manufacturing & Technology (AM&T), Center for Economic Growth (CEG), TDO, NextCorps, MTEC, CITEC and Insyte Consulting.
