The road from farm to fork is getting shorter, as more people are eating and drinking foods and beverages produced close to home.
“I spend a lot of time raising the animals,” said Meyrick Peterson, who runs Perrine Family Farm with her husband, Vern Peterson, in Lyons, Wayne County. “We can’t raise in bulk like commercial,” Meyrick said as she sold the farm’s pesticide-free, grass-fed meats and poultry from a booth at Tuesday’s Canandaigua VA Farmers Market. The time and care it takes to run their farm leaves little time for other aspects necessary to run a business, such as marketing, an area where she could use help, Meyrick said. More
