Manufacturing USA is a network of 14 public-private institutes that each have a distinct technology focus but work toward the common goal of securing America’s future through manufacturing innovation, education, and collaborative research and development. Nationwide, Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) centers are working to help amplify the impact of these institutes on small and mid-sized manufacturers. After a recent round of Department of Commerce awards, the New York Manufacturing Extension Partnership will now maintain staff dedicated to eight of the institutes. These most recent awards include:
- An award to Empire State Development’s Division of Science, Technology & Innovation (which administers New York MEP) to embed personnel in “Reducing Embodied-energy and Decreasing Emissions” (REMADE) Institute, which is led by Rochester Institute of Technology.
- A sub-award to FuzeHub from the MEP center in Pennsylvania, under which FuzeHub will embed a part-time MEP staff member in the Advanced Robotics Manufacturing (ARM) Institute. FuzeHub also serves as the co-lead of the ARM Institute’s regional node at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and this individual will work closely with Rensselaer to disseminate robotics and automation technologies to small manufacturers.
- A sub-award to FuzeHub from the Oregon MEP center to embed personnel in the Rapid Advancement in Process Intensification Deployment (RAPID) Institute headquartered in New York City. This federal Department of Energy-funded institute is focused on chemical process intensification.
