New York Smart Cities Innovation Partnership

The New York Smart Cities Innovation Partnership has been launched to facilitate the integration of emerging technologies into public services. Companies with smart cities technologies can fill out this initial indication of interest and plan to attend a July 7 webinar. New York State has a thriving ecosystem of established and start-up companies that have developed technologies with potential smart cities applications that can improve government services and resident quality of life, including in these areas of focus for the program:

  • Smart Mobility & Traffic Flow Systems
  • Real-Time Utility Monitoring
  • Unmanned Aerial Systems & Drones
  • Smart Agriculture & Clean Food Solutions
  • Clean Energy & Environmental Solutions
  • Health Technology
  • Cybersecurity
  • Supply Chain Solutions
  • Water Purification & Containment Removal

The process for this program begins with cities, counties, towns, and villages applying to be “municipal testbeds” by May 31, 2020. To apply, they must partner with a designated anchor institution—generally, a university research center with a relevant technology focus area—that will serve as project manager and technical advisor.
In July, the testbed opportunities will be published. At that time, technology companies can apply to implement their smart cities solutions in the selected municipal testbeds.
Given the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is anticipated that the program will also serve as an important resource for implementing critical health technologies that support long-term patient monitoring and communication, or for enhancing remote and digital access to government and social services.
