Digital games might be a fun diversion for you, but they are serious business to the folks at the New York University (NYU) Game Center.

The Center, one of three Centers of Excellence that Empire State Development’s Division of Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR) has designated over the past two years to solidify the state’s role in the digital gaming marketplace, attracts people from all over the world who want to learn how to make games in an innovative, supportive and culturally rich environment.

Dylan McKenzie, Director of the Game Center, said that NYU understands the value of building the digital gaming industry, and that one of the best ways to do that is to support smaller game companies. Therefore, the Center’s incubator acts as a bridge between a new developer’s experimental work and the realities of the marketplace. It gives promising new developers time, space, guidance, marketing and legal expertise, and provides other resources that are vital for maximizing opportunities for commercial success. It also helps new developers foster partnerships with publishers, investors and others who can help them grow their businesses.
