“The federal government has picked Rochester, New York as the site of a new Photonics Manufacturing Institute. According to a report by the Democrat and Chronicle of Rochester, U.S. Senator Charles Schumer confirmed that Rochester beat out finalists in Florida and California that were competing for $110 million in federal funding.”

Medical Marijuana Training Program Coming To Region
“Fiorello Pharmaceuticals is one of 43 companies competing for a license to produce and dispense medical marijuana in New York. The company is partnering with the two-year Schenectady, New York school to develop a medical cannabis certificate program that will begin this fall if Fiorello is one of the five companies to receive a state license.”

Xerox Plans To Lay Off 3,000 Workers Companywide
“Xerox Corp. said Friday it plans to decrease its companywide workforce by some 3,000 employees this year as part of a restructuring effort on the services side of the business. Xerox ranked No.1 on the most recent Rochester Business Journal list of manufacturers and ranked fourth on the RBJ75 list of the region’s largest employer with 6,575 local workers.”
