Manufacturing Day is a celebration of modern manufacturing that’s meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturing talent. On the first Friday of each October, manufacturers open their doors to students, teachers, and community members. This year, over 65 Manufacturing Day events are scheduled across New York State, including ones with five of the state’s MEP centers on October 7, 2016.

MEP and Manufacturing Day

Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) centers are part of a nationwide network of specialists that provide business and technical services to U.S. manufacturers. In New York State, 10 regional MEP centers and one statewide center provide support to small-to-medium companies. On Manufacturing Day and every day, NYS manufacturers can engage MEP centers like ITAC, Insyte, CITEC, HTR, AM&T, and FuzeHub.

New York City

New York City’s MEP center, the NYC Industrial and Technology Assistance Corporation (ITAC), will celebrate Manufacturing Day 2016 with an event about trends in advanced manufacturing and implications for the local workforce.  ITAC’s event will feature a series of speakers, including a keynote address by Scott Cohen, the co-founder of New Lab. Western New York

Insyte Consulting, the MEP center for western New York, is sponsoring an event for local students and manufacturers in partnership with Dream It. Do It., an outreach initiative sponsored by The Manufacturing Institute. Insyte will be joined by the Buffalo Niagara Manufacturing Alliance (BNMA) and Buffalo Manufacturing Works (BMW). North Country

In the North Country, CITEC Business Solutions is preparing to celebrate Manufacturing Day 2016 with an invitation-only event that will bring together schools, manufacturers, and other leading members of the community. As the regional MEP center for the far northern part of the Empire State, CITEC has a proven record of success. Register here for this Manufacturing Day event.

Rochester and the Finger Lakes

High Tech Rochester (HTR), the MEP center for the Rochester area and the Finger Lakes Region, is celebrating Manufacturing Day with an open house at its First Prototype Lab, which features 3D printers, a 3D scanner, a laser cutter, computer workstations, and hand tools. The 1P Lab enables HTR clients to take a major step toward commercialization through prototyping. Register here for this event.

Capital Region

FuzeHub, New York’s only statewide MEP center, is celebrating Manufacturing Day with an event about millennials in manufacturing. Moderated by Amber Mooney, FuzeHub’s Industry Engagement Manager, this panel discussion will be held in Malta at Hudson Valley Community College’s TEC-SMART, the Training and Education Center for Semiconductor Manufacturing and Alternative and Renewable Technologies.
Panelists include Erica Iannotti, Project Manager for Innovation Capacity and Business Development at NYSERDA; William Jordan, Applications Engineer at Applied Robotics, Inc.; Morgan Pakatar, Plating Process Technician at GLOBALFOUNDRIES and a Clean Tech ECHS Aluma; and Stephen Zavos, Mechanical Project Engineer at Simmons Machine Tool Corporation. Southern Tier

Alliance for Manufacturing & Technology (AM&T), the MEP Center for the Southern Tier, is participating in the first county-wide celebration of Manufacturing Day in Chemung County. At the “Made in Chemung County” MFG Day Expo, AM&T will provide educational activities. Then during the following week, 12 area manufacturers will host tours and activities.
