New York State Pollution Prevention Institute
The New York State Pollution Prevention Institute (NYSP2I) is a trusted resource for organizations across the state seeking cost-effective strategies for realizing new levels of efficiency and minimizing their impacts on the environment. Its team of engineers/researchers collaborate with the decision-makers—small business owners, manufacturers, community leaders, municipalities—working to make NYS a national model for sustainability, waste-reduction and pollution prevention. NYSP2I is sponsored by NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and led by Golisano Institute of Sustainability at Rochester Institute of Technology. It is a collaboration of five research universities and manufacturing extension partnerships across New York State.
S3IP Center of Excellence, Binghamton University
We put the capabilities and technical resources of a leading research university at the disposal of electronics and energy systems manufacturers and similar industries. Our 6 research centers address microelectronics manufacturing, flexible hybrid electronics, heterogeneous integration of electronics, and thin film electronic devices for energy harvest and storage. Advanced battery research is directed by Dr. Stan Whittingham, 2019 Nobel Laureate for invention of the Li-ion battery. Our professional staff, backed by the deep expertise of faculty, assists companies in problem solving and use of our 7 laboratories to address manufacturing methods and materials, thermal management, failure analysis, prototyping, and reliability improvement.
Cornell Center for Materials Research (CCMR)
The Cornell Center for Materials Research (CCMR) is funded by the National Science Foundation. Its primary mission is to perform cutting-edge materials research. The center also provides support to industry through the NYSTAR-funded Industrial Partnerships Program. The program promotes technology transfer and economic development by offering to industry low-cost, timely and flexible access to world-leading materials experts (Cornell faculty members) and to state-of-the-art instruments, enabling product development as well as expansion to wider markets.
Center for Future Energy Systems (CFES)
The Center for Future Energy Systems (CFES) is located on the campus of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. Our center is one of Empire State Development’s Division of Science, Technology & Innovation’s 15 designated Centers for Advanced Technology. Dr. Jian Sun is the Director of the center and leads a team of over 30 research faculty and support staff. Our mission is to pair the talent and resources of a world-leading research university with industry innovators to move technology from the lab to the marketplace for an energy-sustainable future. Our research focus areas include wind, solar, energy storage, smart-grid and energy-efficient technologies.
